WOMEN ARTISTS OF THE NORTH EAST LIBRARY EVENTS AND CALL FOR DONATIONS

Women Artists of the North East Library curated by Holly Argent continues at Workplace Foundation in Gateshead until 9th September as part of Great Exhibition of the North. Opening with works from Phyllis Christopher, Tess Denman-Cleaver, Kate Liston and Harriet Sutcliffe, the exhibition has since included interventions by Jade Sweeting & Janina Sabaliauskaite and Sophie Buxton. To coincide with the exhibition, a programme of events has been devised by Holly Argent, expanding on ideas brought about through conversations with the artists; exploring broadly, ideas of collective readership, methods of feminist practice and regional artistic legacies. FILM SCREENING & DISCUSSION Living Organism Tyneside Cinema 30 August, 18.00 Screening situates Newcastle-based artist Kate Liston’s film ‘Treatment’ alongside a selection of work influential to her practice, including a live performance of ‘Mutualism’ by Tess Denman-Cleaver, written around Liston’s film. Book your tickets here FILM SCREENING Eyeliner 3rd September, 19.00 A screening of filmic works by women exploring ideas around identity and social interaction in the context of the North East. Works by Ellie Land, Lyn Hagan, Cath Campbell, Geetha J and Leah Millar. Programmed by Cecilia Stenbom and Holly Argent for the exhibition Women Artists of the North East Library.
